WP8 - Environmental, economic and social sustainability assessment

SOLIBAM provides in WP1 to WP7 a set of innovative strategies integrating breeding and crop management with a high level of diversification and methodologies for farmer’s participation. It has to be demonstrated that these strategies are sustainable and at the same time applicable in practice.

WP8 objective is thus to assess and evaluate socio-economic and environmental impacts of SOLIBAM strategies in order to identify farm business, consumer preference, food supply and legislation related issues that are likely to influence their adoption. WP8 will compare SOLIBAM strategies to current agricultural practice with respect to environmental, economic and social sustainability criteria. This implies to rank strategies depending on the specific local/regional context, to reveal consequences of the strategies for the resource use in food supply systems, to give recommendations for  legal regulations which are needed to support the adoption of the innovative breeding strategies, to quantify financial impacts on farming business, to quantify overall changes in cost structures, e.g.,  as a result of premium prices for added values, and finally to identify farmers likely to adopt to the innovations.
